Walk For Water
Reflection from our service coordinator Amber:
Organizing Walk for Water was a great experience for me. I learned not only about the lives of individuals around the world and the struggles they face due to the water crisis, but also about myself as a leader. As a committee we had two goals: to raise awareness and money, in which we were able to accomplish both raising over $500 for Water Mission International. Seeing my club members and fellow community join together for this amazing cause was inspiring and only drives me to want to continue these kinds of projects. This was my first time taking the lead on a large project like this, it became my baby, and to see the event come together made all the hard work and stress so worth it. This event opened all our eyes to this problem and gave us a greater appreciation for this invaluable resource, water. It’s an amazing feeling to know that our hard work will go on to save lives.

What is it?
Walk for Water is a nationwide event created by Water Missions International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing clean water to poverty stricken countries and communities around the world where they have no access to safe drinking water. University organizations across the U.S. put on their own Walk for Water event, where all proceeds are donated to Water Missions International Organization, to be used in the international communities where they are needed most; to provide safe water and sanitation. The K-State Rotaract Club has worked closely with the water crisis when we traveled in January 2016 to Panama to install water filters in some of these communities. The event itself is a 5K WALK, where participants will carry buckets filled with water (as much as they can carry) on a 5K route through KSU campus. The route serves as a physical representation of the distance that woman and children around the world have to walk everyday to access safe drinking water. In addition to raising money and awareness to a great cause, we plan to have live music, outdoor family games, and food for people to enjoy after the walk.
